St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE  APRIL 2013

As I write.....

.... I am unable to say anything about the likely success of your endeavours over the Easter Vigil. What I can say is the Crucifixion you sang last was just amazing! I'm considering (and only that!) working on something on Wednesday 16th April 2014.... but not the Stainer again!* Today's Good Friday service was a bit disappointing for all sorts of reasons, not all of which were within our control! Fingers crossed there will be a little more sensitivity from some to 'listening' around (to the organ, and to the rest of the Choir) whilst singing tomorrow night. It would improve our overall sense of pitch hugely. The constant unwillingness of one or two people to do this this is most disheartening for all of us. Sorry.

Happy Birthday Congratulations

Many congratulations to Terry Jupp on the occasion of her 80th Birthday! 'Celebrating' one's 80th birthday by singing Stainer's The Crucifixion might not seem terribly appropriate to many of you, but is a wonderful and poignant reminder of just how loyal Terry has always been to the Choir and the parish over so very many years, and just how willing she has been with her Tuesday and Sunday commitments to us. Happy Birthday, Terry.

In recognition of such a huge occasion, the Choir hosting an evening of drinks and nibbles in the upstairs hall at 8pm on Tuesday 9th April in her honour. I do hope you will all be able to join us. (Terry is, of course, nearly 30 years older than I am

New Music for 2013.... update

My intention is to order Carols for Choirs 5 in May (NOT June), together with John Rutter's new carol All bells in Paradise that was premiered at Kings College Cambridge last Christmas.

This is the last call for anyone wanting to purchase their own copy of the Fauré Requiem at a 10% discount for November 2nd's performance. Order book closes 30th April.

Choir's Web site

For those of you who may not have noticed, on 14th March I added our Twitter feed to the foot of the Choir's Web site so that you are all able to see what I Tweet!!

Singing Plainchant

Four people responded with a yes and one with a no last month - I'll ask just once more: Would there be an interest if I offered a parish-based Day Course in learning more about the history of and the singing of Plainchant? If there is, I might approach Nick Gale, Director of Music at St. George's Cathedral. Your thoughts?

Outing to Finchcocks Musical Museum 9th June

Habemus Papam!

May God bless Pope Francis as he begins the ministry the Holy Spirit encouraged the 115 Cardinals in the Conclave to provide us with. May his Pontificate be fruitful to the Church.

This month's quiz question

On what date does the feast of St. Francis of Assisi fall in the Church's calendar?

There have been nine entries for the March 'Easter' quiz question.... so far. They have all been correct - the question must have been far too easy!!

We'll draw the lucky winner of the special Easter prize at Terry's birthday evening in the upstairs hall on 9th April.

Please remember.....

Anne M. Mary E. & Frank, and Jo T. in your Easter prayers.

And finally.....

Streatham: a fascinating read HERE and lots of pictures HERE
