St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE  NOVEMBER 2013

Well..... that was good!!!

Many congratulations to you all for the Fauré Requiem (last night, as I sit and type). I have to say that I was hugely proud of you all for what you did. The comments from the pews were unfailingly congratulatory: "first time we've heard you and it sent tingles up my spine at times", "terribly moving", "absolutely lovely" and many more. This morning I also received accolades on your behalf. Andrew, confined to the back row in the nave, kindly wrote and said:

"Once I got over the surreal aspect of watching and listening to the Choir from the nave (very first time ever) I was so impressed. The Choir performed as a really good ensemble, it was restrained, thoughtful, mellow and it was evident that every one of the gang were paying attention and was trying very hard. The whole evening was well moulded, and well thought out. What clearly came across was that the Requiem is greater than its parts - and it certainly grew last night into an almost perfect flower, perfect for the occasion and for All Souls. I take my hat off to what you, Antony and the Choir achieved last night. Well done."

Happily, tuning was great almost throughout (very well done sops and altos). Well done indeed to Jeannette and Rob for their singing of their solo parts, and to Antony for his fine musicianship at the console - wonderful! All in all, praise indeed, which should be a huge encouragement to you all as we move towards Christmas. Tony

Christmas is coming!

This month's Quiz Question

Ah! there were a few correct answers to last month's question about the four windows! I'll draw the winner soon.

November's question is: Where would a Catholic priest wear a maniple?

Answers to me by the end of the month as usual please.

Christmas Concert

Entry by programme: Rather than selling tickets in advance, and then programmes on the door on the night, I intend to revert to selling programmes in advance as we always used to. They will still be at a modest cost of £2 each, but they will also double as tickets. Only five each to sell; please do your utmost.

And finally.....

A reminder of the Candlelight Carol HERE

Prayers, please.....

Please remember our tenor George Norton and his wife Mariachristina in your prayers. Having been with us for but a few weeks, during which he inspired and motivated us, he has had to return to hospital after 5½ years with a re-occurrence of Leukaemia. Our Epiphany Mass will be the Poly Choir intention for his welfare. You may wish to follow his truly wonderfully inspirational blog HERE, and perhaps circulate it to people to read who you feel may benefit from reading it. You are able to set things up so that the latest blog entry is delivered straight to your email Inbox.

Please also continue to remember Anne Mitra and husband Freddie, Madeleine's husband who is currently in hospital, Mary & Frank Elliott.

Also keep in your prayers Father Pat Auger, parish priest at Chard in Somerset. Father Pat suffered ill health since his birth, and overcame so many obstacles to become ordained. His ministry at English Martyrs, Chard was very much-loved and he will be sadly missed by all the parishioners there. God rest his soul.
