St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE  JANUARY 2015

A huge 'WELL DONE', and Thank You to you all!

Our Christmas Concert was fantastic, and Midnight Mass was even better. It must be so difficult for you to cope with a change of organist and conductor for a big occasion such Christmas Midnight Mass, and I'm in awe of the way you managed the change.

A BIG WELL DONE to Jeannette (especially at Midnight Mass!!!) and Rob for their solos, along with Andrew and Ken. Thanks also to all our 'helpers' at the Concert who sold tickets and programmes, and handled the collection afterwards. George was great as Sous Chef in the kitchen, with complete mastery of both oven and hob! Jeannette will advise us of the financial outcome in due course.

Enormous thanks to Bernard for stepping up to 'the box' for Midnight Mass and waggling his stick so accurately and enthusiastically to keep you all in line! Both priests were were openly delighted at your contribution afterwards. Just Epiphany to go now, and then a hard-earned social evening on the 6th January for us all before.....

Parables Concert

We will start work on our 2015 liturgical music and the June Concert in January. Immediately after the concert we might start learning a new Mass for Christmas (see below).

December & January Quiz

37 carols, one for each day from 1st December until Epiphany, with the first letter of the opening words  of each indicated by snowflakes (T) and letters. How many can you name?! Click HERE for a PDF to print out and complete by hand, or HERE for a Word document, to complete on your iPads, 'phones, computers or whatever. Entries to Tony on or before Tuesday 27th January. There are TWO prizes up for grabs for this one!

February's Mass

The music we shall be singing is now available from our Web site HERE, subject to change if circumstances dictate.

Happy New Year.....

... to you and yours; may it bring every happiness, a lot of vocal dexterity, and many happy(!) attendances on Tuesday's and the necessary Sundays, Feasts and Solemnities at Choir!

For your coffee breaks

Christmas 2016: it is possible (possibly, maybe!) that we may sing a different Mass next Christmas. Snippets only of Ronald Corp's Christmas Mass can be heard HERE - tracks 11, 12, 14 and 15. Also listen to Jingle Bells too: I can hear (and see!) our men now! And a gorgeous Stille Nacht.

John Rutter's "The Lord is my Shepherd". I'm tempted, as there is an SATB + Organ score available and because it's lovely, but I feel it's just a tad too long (5+ mins) for liturgical use.

A fabulous recording from the early 1970s of the great plainsong Te Deum sung 'in alternatim' with the late and great Organiste Titulaire  Pierre Cochereau improvising on the Grand Organ of Notre-Dame in Paris.

And finally, probably the most unusual arrangement of Silent Night you'll ever hear!

Our enhanced lighting

Well, it has to be said that Father Deo, with Tim O'Donoghue's advice after he visited us in early November, has very speedily turned our needs into action!! I do hope it meets with the approval of those who must needed it. Huge thanks to them for the improvement!

Prayers, please.....

John Ambler, George Norton, Anne Mitra, Mary & Frank Elliott, Maria Leszczynska & Family. I continue to ask you also for prayers, please, for a Choir member's Private Intention.

2015/16 Dates List

The latest dates list for your fridges, notice boards and diaries is available HERE. You will all receive a paper copy at our January 6th drinks and nibbles evening.
