St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE FEBRUARY 2017

Coffee Morning Sunday 29th January

Thank you to all who helped at the Coffee Morning and/or produce one of the wonderful array of tasty cakes. Whilst it was slightly busier than expected after the 8.30 Mass, I don't think I've ever seen the Hall so full after the 10! Absolutely manic!! Well done to all for coping!

Someone will forever remember the 'meltdown' after a request for 'a ketchup sandwich with no butter' which momentarily caused complete and utter chaos in the kitchen!!!

We raised £154.30 thanks to your efforts - all of it will go towards this year's Choir Outing. Hopefully I'll be able to announce where we're going soon - 11th June is the Diary Date.

Benediction on Palm Sunday

The Choir will be singing for Benediction and Stations of the Cross at 4pm on 9 April - traditional plainchant O Salutaris, Tantum Ergo and Adoremus, plus Stabat Mater in Latin between Stations. We will learn the music between now and then. It's very straightforward, which is one of the joys of Plainchant.

Father Paul's Leaving Gift from the Choir

Jeannette's 'cash bag' will be passed around the Gallery for another couple of weeks at least, so if you wish to contribute, and haven't done so already, please remember to bring your contribution to Choir.

Choir Diary Dates

The latest list of forthcoming dates is available HERE.

St. Bart's Crib 2016

What a wonderful photo' of our crib last Christmas! Huge thanks to John Taylor for providing it for use on the parish Web site this year. Click on it for a larger image.

Choirs in the Catholic Church

Interview with Peter Kwansiewski on the role of Choirs in the Catholic Church. Click on the red links below the first paragraph, and then the links to the subsequent pages in at the foot of each portion. Informative reading. Worthy of a read me-thinks.

Easter Vigil 2017

Three of the seven readings, and no extras!

Cantors

7.45pm Practices: Andrew 28 February and Ken 28 March. Please note in your diaries.

Plainchant Choir

The next practice will take place on 14 February at 19:30 to prepare for the 11:30 Mass on 19 February.

Daniel Battle -
Recital at Westminster Cathedral

Daniel gives the Sunday afternoon recital at Westminster Cathedral on 30 April next. Probably at 16:45 for half an hour, as is customary at the cathedral, with free entry. I'll be there - after our Coffee Morning!

British Choirs on the Net

Chorister Newsletter January 2017.

Prayers, please

Joe Ryan, Carole Winch, Anne Rowntree, George Meyern, George Norton, Mary & Frank Elliott, Christine & Eugene, Maria & Family, Anne Mitra, Jeannette's mother Hazel, and Carole's husband Mike in your prayers. Please would you also include my parents, Sheila and David, in your prayers.

For your coffee breaks

This year's Choral Workshops with the Platinum Consort at St. Mary's Church, Battersea. Some of us will remember the wonderful Spem in Alium day a few years ago.

An improvisation from the great Oliver Latry. If you watch for just over six minutes you will witness the most amazing piece of dexterity in stop registration I have ever witnessed from an organist!

Always of 'spot the Catholics' interest, Archbishop Cranmer's Top 100 Most Inspirational Christians 2016.

The Catholic Herald nominates the wonderful Bishop Philip Egan as its Catholic of the Year.

Father Paul's new parish.

14 January would have been the Feast of The Ass, if old liturgies had survived!

I had no idea there were so many gas lamplights in London still.

Eleven of the funniest BBC radio clips  from 2016.

Children and the Traditional Mass.

And finally, Auld Lang Syne - Happy New Year to you all.
